The National Curriculum applies to all pupils of compulsory school age in maintained schools. At St. Catherine’s School we are concerned with the Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and 2.
Foundation Stage – 4 – 5 years
Key Stage 1 5 - 7 years
Key Stage 2 7 - 11 years
In these key stages the children are required to study the following subjects: - English, Mathematics, Science, Technology (design and technology and information technology) History, Geography, Art, Music and Physical Education.
All children will have access to the curriculum appropriate to their abilities. They will be given the opportunity to develop their information technology capability, mainly working with a computer but they will also have experience in using a programmable toy, tape recorders etc. The children will develop skills in I.C.T., which they will then be given the opportunity to apply throughout the rest of the curriculum.
The school aims to provide a broad and balanced and stimulating curriculum of the highest quality, which contributes to the child’s complete education. This covers may aspects of a child’s development - spiritual, academic, physical, aesthetic, moral, social and recreational.
